A man in the central province of Ha Tinh has been fined VND38 million (USD1,727) after he threatened local people with a handgun after causing a traffic accident.

To Quang Nghia, 51, is from Can Loc District’s Thuan Thien Commune.   

At around 2:30 pm on January 21, while Nguyen Thanh Hiep, 64, was standing by his motorbike on Phan Kinh Street in Hong Linh Town, Nghia suddenly collided with the motorbike, causing some damage.

Hiep and his relatives requested Nghia pay compensation, but Nghia disagreed and threatened them with a handgun taken from the car.

Nghia was fined a total VND38 million for his violations, including VND18 million for being checked with high alcohol content and VND15 million for using the weapon illegally.

Nghia will also have his driving licence revoked for five months. He will also have to pay for Hiep’s damaged motorbike
