The People’s Court of Ha Tinh province on November 27 sentenced Nguyen Van Hoa, born in 1995, a resident of in Ky Khang commune, Ky Anh district, to seven years’ imprisonment for conducting propaganda against the State.

Hoa was also banned to move beyond his hometown in three years after finishing his punishment.

According to the verdict, from 2013 to 2017, Hoa set up a number of social network accounts to post information slandering and defaming the government and the Party.

In 2016, Hoa arranged the scene to make video clips and take photos on the maritime environmental incident and floods in Ha Tinh and posted them on the social media via network accounts to incite locals to gather to protest the government.

Particularly, in October 2016, he and some extremists stimulated people to protest at the main gate of the Formosa company. He recorded and ran a protest video clip online on the social media, calling on locals in the region to destroy the property of Formosa and caused social disorder in the locality.

Hoa then moved to Ho Chi Minh City to work and continued using the social network to spread documents that contained reactionary information against the government, causing worry in the community.

He also sent and shared photos, video clips, reports and articles on “hot” issues in Ha Tinh and others neighbouring provinces of Nghe An and Quang Binh to other reactionary individuals and organisations.

On April 6, 2017, the police of Ha Tinh issued a decision to start legal proceedings against Hoa and detained him for three months.

At the court, Hoa confessed his guilty and his wish to redeem his faults.-VNA
