A woman in the central province of Ha Tinh will sue the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam for the agency’s lax management over a local junction which was partially blamed for a recent accident leading to her husband’s death.

A tanker collided with two motorbikes at the deadly junction in Cam Vinh Commune, Cam Xuyen District.   

As a result, motorbike driver Le Van Sy, 39 died on the spot. While another motorbike driver Tran Van Hung, 35, was seriously injured.

According to witnesses, at that time, there were no traffic sign or lights, while the street lighting was not working and the lanes were not sufficiently demarcated. The tanker went into the wrong lane, causing the accident.

Sy’s wife Thu Trang said that her family has decided to sue the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam and Road Management Agency II.

Trang added that Ha Tinh Province People’s Committee would have to take part of responsibility in the case.

The widow said local residents had reported to management agencies about problems at the junction for many times, urging them to improve the situation, but to date, nothing had been done.

“We expect that management agencies make a public apology about lax management. They must also admit their responsibility related to the accident, but not just a merely through financial support to my family,” Trang highlighted.

Vo Con Son, head of Cam Xuyen District’s Traffic Police Board, supported the victim family. He also agreed that lighting and road marketing were partially responsible for the accident. A roundabout was also needed to be built to slow speeds.

Lawyer Phan Chieu from An Phat Law Firm also agreed.
