Masks and costumes have been put on display at various shops in the Old Quarter as young people prepare for Halloween parties.

The traditional European Halloween has become increasingly popular in Vietnam in recent years.

Ghost masks, pirate costumes or bloody gloves can be found easily on Luong Van Can or Hang Ma streets. Cosplay wigs or skull sticks are some of many items sold for the Halloween.

Traders said most of the items are imported from China. Minh, a seller on Hang Ma Street said, "The items are more varied than previous years and we’ve had more customers. Apart from familiar items like cloaks or masks, we also sell evil dolls and witch puppets."

As those items are often disposable for single use, they must have reasonable prices but eye-catchy enough for customers. Many shops even accept orders for custom-made Halloween costumes whose prices are double or three times higher than normal.

"The items often have orange, red or black colours. University students like unique and really scary things while pupils choose gentler designs," Minh said.
