Director of Hanoi FC Do Quang Hien on Tuesday signed a contract worth 250 million euros (US$310 million) with French group Boyugues to improve and expand Hang Day Stadium.

When construction work will begin or end was not announced.

The move aims to make Hanoi FC’s traditional home ground a more attractive destination for football fans.

Hang Day, built in 1934, became the capital side’s home ground last year. The club previously called My Dinh Stadium home.

In 2017, Hang Day was closed for improvements costing more than VNĐ10 billion ($448,000) to meet Asian Football Confederation standards.

In the past, the 22,500-seat stadium was also the national team’s home ground. It also hosted clubs like The Cong, Hòa Phát Hanoi and Hanoi ACB.

Currently, apart from Hanoi FC, Viettel and People’s Police also call Hang Day home.

Boyugues is an industrial group specialising in construction, real estate development, media and telecommunications.

The group built Parc des Princes Stadium in Paris in 1972 and rebuilt Stade Velodrome in Marseille in 2011.

Bouygues also has more than a hundred sports facilities to its credit, both in France and elsewhere.

It also built the International Convention Centre in downtown Hanoi in 1997 and Phu Luong Bridge in Hai Duong Province in 1995. — VNS
