Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has called on Singaporean groups to send experts to study and provide consultation to address traffic issue in the capital city.

Hanoi plans to limit personal vehicles in the downtown to reduce traffic jam.


During a meeting with 3M Singapore’s leaders on the sidelines of the ongoing World Cities Summit 2016 in Singapore, Chung asked the group to sent experts to study the pilot implementation of a system to limit traffic flow into the city’s downtown.

The Group’s experts are expected to present their solutions in details at a meeting late this month in Hanoi.

In order to ease traffic load in the downtown, Hanoi plans to limit individual vehicles to enter the areas surrounding Hoan Kiem (Sword) Lake in September, Chung said.

The capital city with a population of over 10 million wishes to apply the 3M’s technology in managing public transport means and public security issue.

During the meeting, 3M Deputy Director General Joe Liu introduced to the Hanoi delegation the group’s smart technologies for urban development, such as efficient lighting system, and other public security, among other solutions.

The same day, the Singapore-based group Master Card also presented their outstanding products during a meeting with the delegation, including mobile phone – integrated public transport ticket-selling system.

The Hanoi leader invited the group’s leaders to visit Vietnam late this month to study and provide consultation on developing a similar system for Hanoi.
