Figures from the Foreign Language Specialized School, affiliated with the University of Languages and International Studies under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, show that the 2024-2026 Class 12A2 achieved strong results across a range of academic measures.

Of its 43 students, 36 scored at least 8.0 on IELTS, while 29 achieved SAT scores of 1,500 or above.

Three students also won prizes in Vietnam’s national competition for academically gifted high school students, while class members earned numerous awards in English competitions at different levels.

All 43 students were admitted to prestigious universities in Vietnam or abroad.

Seventeen were admitted to and chose to attend universities overseas, including the National University of Singapore, Osaka University in Japan, Bocconi University in Italy, Indiana University and Purdue University in the United States, and RMIT University in Australia.

Eight students secured full scholarships from leading universities around the world.

Among them, Nguyen Bui Hoa Ngan was admitted to Colby College in the US, which has an acceptance rate of just 7%, receiving a full scholarship with financial support worth $79,560 a year, or approximately $318,240 over four years.

Colby is ranked No. 24 among liberal arts colleges in the United States.

Another member of the class, Nguyen Nam Khanh, received a four-year scholarship from Hamilton College worth $68,000 annually, totaling $272,000.

Hamilton ranks No. 13 among leading US liberal arts colleges.

Ngo Phuong Linh and Nguyen Minh Phuong, meanwhile, passed highly competitive selection processes to receive full government scholarships through university recommendation programs at Osaka University and the University of Tsukuba, two prominent public universities in Japan.

Another Class 12A2 student, Nguyen Quang Trung, received Bocconi University’s highest scholarship award, covering 100% of his tuition for the entire degree program.

Bocconi is ranked No. 1 in Italy and 17th globally for social sciences and management, according to QS Rankings.

Pham Hoai Thu, the class’s homeroom teacher, said the results reflected not only the efforts of individual students and support from their families and teachers, but also the class’s strong sense of solidarity and willingness to help one another.

“We stayed connected, encouraged one another to keep trying and pushing forward. I can say that we weren’t simply a class - we truly became a family,” Thu said. “That is also what I value most and what makes me proudest of them.”

Thu said she was particularly pleased that her students had not confined themselves to languages but were willing to step outside their comfort zones and pursue a wide range of fields at university.

Their choices include economics and finance, communications, design, information technology, engineering, international relations, natural sciences and law.

Do Thi Ngoc Chi, vice principal of the Foreign Language Specialized School, told VietNamNet that the school was delighted and proud of the achievements of its 2024-2026 specialized English class.

“The students have always embodied the spirit of our school and the qualities of global citizens,” Chi said. “I also had the opportunity to teach the class directly and accompany them on their journey. They have not only built a strong foundation of knowledge but also developed sharp skills. They have courage, ambition and the ability to adapt.”
