It will feature Vietnamese and international musicians such as pianists Pham Quynh Trang and Bokyung Lee, violinist Pham Thi To Trinh and clarinet Vladimir Pavtchinskii.
The musicians will play a repertoire including Mozart’s Symphony No 40 and Do Nhuan’s Du Kích Sông Thao (The Guerilla in Thao River).
Symphony No 40 will be performed by two pianos with eight hands as two performers will play on each piano.
Du Kích Sông Thao was written in 1948 when the composer and his comrades escaped from Son La Prison.
During the escape, he remembers people helping him to complete the task including a small girl. She has a mission to sail a boat carrying soldiers across the river. He was inspired by her to write the song.
“This song, Trường Ca Sông Lô (Lô River Epic) and Người Hà Nội (Hanoian) go beyond the influence of other songs,” said Do Hong Quan, chairman of Viet Nam Musicians Association.
“They have historical significance encouraging young people to go into battle. It was also great contributions of the musicians during the national resistance.
“The appearance of these songs was new to Vietnam’s music scene at that time.”
The concert is co-held by MaySpace Music Academy, Việt Nam National Academy of Music and Khăn Ấm Cho Em (Warm Scarf) Fund since 2017 to raise money for children in the mountainous and remote areas.
