The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has fined a mobile phone retailer for its PR campaign which consisted of parading around a model in a glass box on a pick-up truck.

The mobile phone retailer The Gioi Di Dong on August 11 held the event on Nguyen Khanh Toan Street in Cau Giay District.

The model sat in the pickup truck's glass box, showing off a new Samsung phone model. The vehicle with the company’s logo was followed by a group of motorbikes, attracting public attention.

According to To Van Dong, director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the company will have to pay VND6 million (USD274) for the fine.

The Gioi Di Dong conducted the PR stunt without seeking the department's permission.
The pickup truck driver was also fined for the PR programme.

The Hanoi traffic police on August 15 fined the driver Dinh Manh Ha who operated the truck with the model in the glass box on VND900,000 for traffic violations. Ha also had his driving license revoked for two months.

In May this year, a restaurant in Cau Giay District was fined VND40 million (USD1,700) for using PR girls in bikinis to pour beer and bring food for customers.

In the same month, Tran Anh electronics store in Hanoi also received a fine for its promotion activities in which young women hired by the store donned bikinis to welcome visitors to introduce air-conditioning products.
