Farmers in Nhat Tan Ward, Hanoi, are busy with harvesting their daisies, with the promise of lucrative returns.
Some local households said the flower grew a lot in Nhat Tan and were ignored as worthless. Only when people flocked to take photos of the fields, did people in Nhat Tan start cultivating them.
Daisies are often planted along with peach trees.
Nguyen Thi Hoa, a daisy grower in Nhat Tan Ward, said that the fertile alluvium soil and this year’s favourable weather had helped the daisies. Her 720 square metres of daisy fields meant her family could earn tens of millions of VND this year.
“Growing daisy is more profitable than many other kinds of flower and crops. It is also quite easy to take care of it,” Hoa added.
The daisy prices are basically unchanged compared to last year at VND50,000 (USD2.27) per small bunch at wholesale.
Besides selling the flower to traders, many households in Nhat Tan make money from people eager to have their photos taken in the fields.
At this time of the year, daisy gardens in Nhat Tan are crowded with people wanting photos with the flowers.
This is also a favourite place for couples who want to capture wedding photos. Other services such as food, make-up and leasing clothes have also boomed near the daisy fields.
