At approximately 6:45 p.m. on June 16, a fire erupted at 207 Dinh Cong Ha street. Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke and flames emanating from the house and immediately called for assistance. One witness noted: "When the fire broke out, there were still people trapped inside the house."
By 7:24 p.m., four fire trucks and one ladder truck were deployed to combat the blaze. The affected building, a six-story structure with an attic, housed businesses on the first three floors and residences above.
Despite the concerted efforts of dozens of firefighters, the fire continued to rage, particularly on the attic and sixth floors. At 8:00 p.m., the fire prevention team had not yet reached the fifth floor.
By 8:15 p.m., police had attempted to break the glass on the sixth floor to gain access, but the balcony's glass covering complicated their efforts. By 9:00 p.m., ambulances were still unable to reach the fire victims, prompting the arrival of additional fire trucks and personnel.
Around 9:50 p.m., victims were seen being wrapped in blankets and transported to waiting ambulances. By 10:05 p.m., the first ambulance had left the scene, followed shortly by a second one.
By 10:13 p.m., the fire was under control, with firefighters continuing to cool the building.
At 10.15pm, Lieutenant General Nguyen Hai Trung, Director of Hanoi City Police, arrived at the scene. According to the Hanoi City Police information portal, four bodies were discovered amidst the fire's aftermath.
