The festival, co-organised by the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations (HAUFO) and the Hanoi Vietnam-US Friendship Association, featured a number of activities, including an exhibition and a painting competition themed "Peace-Friendship", a food festival, cultural, arts performances, and a book gift programme to support Community Book Library at Hanoi Book Street.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Dinh Hong Phong, president of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association in Hanoi, noted that the Vietnam-US relationship has experienced plenty of ups and downs and recorded remarkable achievements. It has flourished to encompass economic, political, security, and people-to-people ties.
Hanoi always attaches importance to cooperation with US localities through meetings between city leaders, business forums, and exchanges, he said.
Phong expressed his belief that through the efforts of the Governments and peoples of the two countries, as well as the Vietnamese capital, the joint multifaceted co-operation would continue to yield new positive results in line with the comprehensive partnership of the two countries.
In response, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper affirmed that the Vietnam – US relations have expanded throughout many aspects, with co-operation in education playing a fundamental role in helping the people of the two countries become closer.
The US Ambassador said that he was very proud of cooperation between educational institutions and schools of Hanoi and American localities, hoping more such cooperation achievements would be recorded in future.
