High-end apartment buildings on ‘golden land areas’ would be converted into hotels.

Hanoi authorities, in an effort to promote tourism, have designed projects to develop high-end hotels in the central business district.

Hanoi’s Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung said the city would have 20,000 rooms for guests in the next five years. Luxury hotels would be built in the central district of Hoan Kiem, at No 22-32 Ly Thai To, 22-24 Hang Bai and 39 Hai Ba Trung.

Meanwhile, Hanoitourist is considering building a hotel at No 1 Ba Trieu Street, also in Hoan Kiem district, and upgrading Hoa Binh Hotel.

Other hotels would be set up in other districts, further from the central area. A 300-room hotel would be built on Thai Ha Street of Dong Da District, a 500-room hotel in Nam Tu Liem District, a 300-room in Ba Dinh District and a 600-room in the suburb district of Dong Anh.

Chung said investors were being encouraged to build high-end hotels, as the city now lacks some 20,000 hotel rooms.

The land plots reserved for hotels are all located on ‘golden land areas’, the land in advantageous positions with high commercial value. Some office building and high-end apartment projects would also be converted into luxury hotels in the future.

The project at No 22-24 Hang Bai Street and 25-27 Hai Ba Trung Street developed by Tan Hoang Minh Group is an example. The land plot was initially reserved for an office building and apartments. However, it would be a luxury hotel instead.

According to Le Vinh, director of the Hanoi Planning & Architecture Department, Tan Hoang Minh, the investor, initially asked for permission to build a complex with 12 stories. However, the city authorities did not want multi-story buildings.

In the latest move, the investor has said it would build an eight-story work and would be a hotel, not an apartment building.

Regarding the 5-star hotel close to Hoan Kiem Lake, at No 22-32 Ly Thai To Street in Hoan Kiem District, the Hanoi Planning & Architecture Department is still consulting with relevant agencies. 

The investors who registered to develop hotel projects on golden land areas have been urged to speed up project implementation. 

On the 3,500 square meter land plot on Tran Quang Khai Street, initially designed to be an office building, there will be a high-end hotel called Park Hyatt Hanoi with four basements and 18 stories.
