Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Limited Company are working on a plan to clean Hoan Kiem Lake which is facing serious pollution.

According to the company survey, the mud at the bottom of the lake is around one metre deep, containing heavy metals and high algae density. The water quality has considerably fallen with a high pH level of between 9.05 and 9.46 but low oxygen.

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Limited Company said that the cleanup project will last for 69 days. The dredging work starts from 9:30 pm and will finish around 5:30 am every day. 57,400 cubic metres of mud will be removed.

After being dredged, the mud will be discharged in Thanh Tri District’s Yen So Commune.

The company will seek the public opinions, including experts, for the plan before submitting it to the Hanoi People’s Committee for approval.
