The displays are linked directly to Hanoi's traffic management centre and form part of the city's broader effort to modernise traffic monitoring and improve road safety.
Real-time traffic guidance
On July 13, officers from Hanoi's Traffic Police Division conducted final inspections alongside contractors on Pham Hung Street before the new system enters service.
According to the Traffic Police Division, the LED displays have been installed at key intersections, including National Highway 3–National Highway 18, Vo Chi Cong–Nguyen Hoang Ton, National Highway 2–Vo Van Kiet, Quang Trung–Le Trong Tan, Dam Quang Trung–Co Linh and the Mai Dich overpass.
Connected directly to the city's traffic control centre, the network will provide motorists with live traffic information, allowing them to adjust their routes before reaching congested areas.
During peak travel periods, the screens will display traffic conditions at upcoming intersections and recommend alternative routes to ease congestion.
Outside rush hours, the displays will be used for public awareness campaigns and to inform road users about penalties for common traffic violations.
Each LED display measures 4 metres by 2 metres and is mounted on an overhead gantry approximately 2 metres above the road, providing clear visibility for approaching drivers.
Part of a broader smart traffic upgrade
The LED display system complements Hanoi's wider intelligent transport initiative.
Since July 1, Hanoi Police have put into operation an additional 2,460 AI-powered cameras, 57 servers and 100 smart traffic control cabinets covering 238 major intersections across the city.
The upgraded traffic management system includes features such as coordinated "green wave" traffic signal control, adaptive traffic lights that respond to real-time traffic volumes, and congestion forecasting.
Beyond traffic management, the AI camera network also supports urban management and public safety by detecting public disorder, unauthorised entry into restricted areas, weapon-related incidents, fires, smoke and illegal waste dumping, among other situations requiring law enforcement attention.
