A doctor takes care of dengue fever patients in Hanoi.

According to a report from the municipal Centre for Disease Control (CDC), the city confirmed 2,404 new cases of dengue fever during the week from September 15-22, the highest figure recorded in a week so far this year.

The Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases is providing treatment for some 100 serious dengue fever cases including one critical patient who has to use a ventilator.

At Ha Dong General Hospital, 173 patients are having treatment, including 78 serious cases. 54 other patients are being treated at Bach Mai Hospital with 11 facing serious conditions.

Deputy Director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Nguyen Trung Cap, said that most of the patients already faced serious conditions before being transferred to the hospital.

"Many patients only come to the hospitals when their condition has worsened," the doctor said. "Meanwhile, lower-level hospitals are facing shortages of medicine for dengue fever so they couldn't provide proper treatment. This situation has led to many patients facing critical condition or even death after being transferred to us."

Hanoi CDC reported that the city has recorded 12,776 cases of dengue fever so far this year, up 3.5 times compared to the same period last year, including three deaths.
