The Hanoi People’s Council has decided to revoke 27 projects which have been delayed for years. They cover a total area of hundreds of hectares, mostly in the districts of Thach That, Me Linh, Nam Tu Liem, Dong Da and Long Bien.
These include the 55ha garden villa project in Tien Xuan commune of Thach That district, which has been pending for 14 years; the 99-hectare Prime Group new urban area project in Dai Thinh commune, Me Linh district; and the 106ha Vinalines new urban area in Dai Thinh, Thanh Lam and Trang Viet communes of Me Linh district.
Hanoi has taken serious measures to take back ‘golden land’ from delayed projects. One of them is a 2,000sq.m project at No 6 Dao Duy Anh street in Dong Da district. City authorities are reviewing licensed projects and will revoke unimplemented projects, which waste land resources.
Hanoi’s Chairman Tran Sy Thanh said there are thousands of projects like these in the city.
Dang Hung Vo, former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, applauded Hanoi’s plan to handle pending projects. He said that it is not difficult to revoke pending projects and Hanoi can do this by referring to the Land Law.
Under the law, if investors cannot implement projects after they receive a 24-month extension, management agencies can take back both land and properties located on the land without having to compensate anyone.
Vo said that Hanoi leaders need to take responsibility for leaving thousands of hectares of land unused for dozens of years. The land must be recovered and allocated to capable investors to create jobs and buildings.
Hanoi’s National Assembly deputy Truong Xuan Cu said that Hanoi needs to continue to be determined to revoke the 27 projects and ignore complaints.
