Born in 1992 and based in Hanoi, Tung Xuan Lam has spent nearly ten years immersed in street photography, quietly documenting the rhythms of everyday life. The exhibition space reflects this journey - a contemplative environment where images invite viewers to pause and look more closely at the ordinary.

Originally working as an office employee, Lam pursued photography out of pure passion. Each day, after fulfilling responsibilities to work and family, he would step out with his camera, roaming the city in search of moments that resonated with him.

Unburdened by financial pressure, he approached photography with a sense of freedom. His images are not driven by external expectations but by an internal compass - calm, observant, and reflective. They neither dramatize nor judge, but remain grounded in a quiet awareness of the world.

Speaking to VietNamNet, Lam described the exhibition as a personal journey toward rediscovering his “original identity” - a return to the most authentic version of himself.

He expressed satisfaction that the exhibition has begun to communicate this message, while also hoping to receive further reflections from audiences who share a love for art.

Over the years, Lam has taken countless photographs, carefully curating around 10,000 images that meet his standards. None of the scenes are staged. Each frame emerges naturally, shaped by patience and timing.

“The beauty of street photography lies in its authenticity,” he said. “Anything that moves me emotionally, I capture. But a compelling frame takes time - you often have to wait for the exact moment when everything aligns.”

The exhibition unfolds across three chapters - Tieu hanh tinh (Little Planet), Vong lap (Loop), and Nhan dang goc (Original Identity) - guiding viewers through a reflective journey that mirrors the artist’s own search for essence.

A consistent visual thread runs through the works: a delicate balance between light and shadow. Even in darkness, light finds its way into the frame, suggesting a quiet resilience.

From the familiarity of city streets to the depth of inner space, Lam’s photographs transcend documentation. Each image becomes an act of listening - a dialogue between the self and the surrounding world.

Rather than allowing these fleeting moments to drift endlessly across digital screens, Lam places them within a physical space of contemplation, restoring a sense of presence and meaning to each captured instant.

Nhan dang goc will run until April 19 in Ho Chi Minh City.
