On the evening of October 28, Hanoi’s Traffic Police Department, alongside medical personnel, successfully transported a donated heart from Bach Mai Hospital to Noi Bai Airport for a life-saving transplant procedure in the central city of Hue.
The process, which requires seamless coordination and precision, was completed within the "golden hour" - the critical six-hour window during which the heart must be transplanted after removal from the donor. Recognizing the urgency, Bach Mai Hospital coordinated with the Traffic Police Department to ensure rapid transport.
Upon receiving the request, Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia, Head of the Hanoi Traffic Police, instructed the Patrol Escort Unit to assemble a team and a specialized police vehicle at Bach Mai Hospital to assist in transporting the heart to the airport as quickly as possible.
Through efficient coordination between the escort team and traffic police, the heart reached Noi Bai Airport from Bach Mai Hospital in under 20 minutes.
"This mission extends life and touches on humanity’s highest values. Despite the short notice, our officers are always ready to respond, whether day or night, rain or shine," Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia commented on the heartfelt mission.
Earlier on October 16, L.T.S., a 35-year-old patient, was admitted to Bach Mai Hospital’s A9 Emergency Center in critical condition, unconscious and suffering from cardiac arrest outside the hospital. Despite the hospital's intensive nine-day efforts, the patient’s condition did not improve, leading to a diagnosis of deep coma with no reflexes - a sign of possible brain death.
A thorough examination by top specialists confirmed that L.T.S. could not survive, leading his family to make the courageous and humane decision to donate his organs, allowing others a chance at life.
