The Hanoi Department of Tourism has instructed local tourism businesses to refrain from bringing visitors to the Train Street cafés.

However, the area near Hoan Kiem District, a popular check-in spot for both locals and foreigners, remains bustling with activity despite warnings.

The Train Street cafés stretch for about 300 meters from Tran Phu to Phung Hung, with many establishments placing tables and chairs right next to the train tracks - sometimes just a few centimeters away - while the legal safety corridor requires a minimum distance of three meters.

On the evening of March 17, there were no security personnel present, allowing residents and visitors to move freely along the tracks.

A large warning sign posted at the entrance is often ignored. The Train Street area has gained fame on social media and international travel sites, drawing many tourists who seek the thrilling experience of being close to passing trains.

One foreign tourist shared that he discovered the location through online articles. "I saw the warning signs, but since it was so crowded, I just went in," he explained.

Another visitor, Catherine from France, expressed excitement about the unique atmosphere but also noted the inherent risks. "The street is really interesting. Standing close to the train as it passes is exhilarating but quite dangerous," she said.

Even though café staff frequently remind patrons to move aside when trains approach, many still stand less than one meter from the speeding carriages to record videos or take photos.

Hoan Kiem District authorities have repeatedly called for stricter measures and have imposed fines on businesses operating along the tracks, yet the situation persists.

In September 2022, the Vietnam Railway Corporation and local authorities installed barricades, warning signs, and checkpoints to restrict access to the area. Despite these efforts, tourists continue to flock to the spot, eager to experience the thrill.

In early March 2025, the Hanoi Department of Tourism issued Document 221/SDL-QLLH, instructing tour operators and transport services not to bring visitors to Train Street to maintain safety and reestablish public order.
