On September 20, Hanoi Metro officially launched a pilot program featuring digital identity verification and biometric recognition across the entire urban railway Line 2A (Cat Linh - Ha Dong).

The program is currently active at all 12 stations on the route, utilizing 65 ticket gates. It integrates multiple advanced technologies including electronic ID verification and biometric scanning via chip-based ID cards, the Hanoi Metro app, contactless metro cards, and international Visa payment cards.

Participants in this trial include passengers over 60 years old (eligible for free rides) and general commuters using single-use or daily tickets through the listed methods.

During the trial, passengers receive clear instructions on how to pass through the gates, experience the new technology firsthand, and are eligible for special fare rates under the contactless payment scheme.

For instance, passengers using a Visa card can tap their card at the entry gate, which logs the boarding station. Upon exiting, they simply tap the card again at the exit gate, and the system automatically calculates and deducts the fare - no need to buy tickets in advance or wait in line.

Hanoi Metro hopes the initiative will provide passengers with a safer, more convenient, and eco-friendly commuting experience. The project also marks a step toward integrating modern technologies to enhance service quality and convenience on Hanoi's urban rail lines.
