Ceremony to kick off work on the route that links Vinh Tuy Ring Road to Nga Tu So Ward

The work is part of the Ring Road 2 project. The Transport Project Management Board in Hanoi said the project included an elevated road from Vinh Tuy to Nga Tu So Ward and a road expansion on the ground from Vinh Tuy Bridge to Vong Intersection.

The project will help regulate the traffic from the western side of Hanoi to the city centre and eastern side.

The route will be 5.2km long with an investment of VND9.5trn, of which nearly VND4.2trn (USD184.40m) are for ground clearance.

Last year, it was announced that about 2,357 houses and 15 state offices covering 176,581 square metres would be demolished on Minh Khai Street’s expansion from Vinh Tuy Bridge to Vong Junction. The new road will be 53.5 to 63.5 metres wide.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Hanoi's Vice Chairman Nguyen Quoc Hung said, "Ring Road 2 plays an important role in the city's urban planning. Investors must work immediately to ensure that the project will be completed in 2020. District authorities must carry out ground clearance and resettlement tasks."

The Vinh Tuy-Nga Tu So route will run through Hoang Mai, Hai Ba Trung, Thanh Xuan and Dong Da districts. Hanoi authorities will pay for ground clearance and resettlement while real estate developer VinGroup pays for the construction.

The Hanoi People's Committee already provided VinGroup with an interest-free advance payment of VND1trn (USD44.50m) to widen the road from Vinh Tuy Bridge to Mai Dong Bridge and ground clearance tasks in the area are still being completed. Congestion hot spots such as Truong Chinh Street and Vong Junction will need to be dealt with.
