The construction ministry has asked the Hanoi People’s Committee to inspect resettlement apartment housing projects.

The municipal authorities have been ordered to list projects invested in before and after the Law on Housing 2005 and 2014 took effect and point out the number of apartments handed over to residents and put into use.

The examination should inspect the quality, arrangement, use and management of the buildings. The operation of the building’s management board will also be examined.

The authorities must report the transfer, management and use of maintenance fund of the buildings constructed before Housing Law 2005 took effect.

The construction ministry is ready to listen to obstacles, receive proposals from local authorities and will submit a report to the Government on the use of maintenance funds.

According to the ministry, some newly-built resettlement houses have downgraded after being put into use to poor-quality infrastructure.

Broken elevators, sinking floors and poor water drainage system are common at many resettlement apartment housing projects in the capital.

As of March this year, according to Hanoi's Housing Management and Development Company, more than 1,000 resettlement apartments were deserted in the city.

The company currently manages 166 resettlement blocks in the city with 14,211 apartments. — VNS
