A reconstruction plan for old apartment buildings in Hanoi should be completed by the end of this month, according to the municipal People’s Committee.
Building A2 of the Nguyen Cong Tru apartment complex in Hanoi, one of the old apartment buildings classified as having the "most dangerous" structure that needs urgent reconstruction.
The city’s Department of Construction was assigned to finalise the plan.
The plan should be able to state the number of apartments and apartment buildings that need reconstruction, identify related tasks and assign them to concerned parties, and present a clear pathway for the reconstruction process, according to the committee.
The city’s Department of Planning and Architecture proposed that the committee be in charge of the overall classification of different types of old apartment buildings and give directions to the urban architecture and planning process to facilitate reconstruction of the buildings.
The construction department is responsible for directing collaboration between concerned parties to develop specialised mechanisms and policies for reconstruction of the buildings.
A report on such tasks should be presented to the Prime Minister and the city’s People’s Council before January 31 next year.
Statistics of the department show that Hanoi now has around 1,516 old apartment buildings of two to five floors, with most of them built in the 1960s-1990s.
