Hanoi will relocate the “Determined to Die for the Fatherland to Live” monument from the grounds of Ba Kieu Temple near Hoan Kiem Lake as part of a broader plan to reorganize and enhance one of the capital’s most important historic spaces.
Dr. Nguyen Doan Van, director of the Hanoi Management Board of Monuments and Scenic Sites, confirmed to VietNamNet that the city has approved in principle the relocation of the monument, which currently stands within the grounds of the nationally recognized Ba Kieu Temple.
The move forms part of Hanoi’s plan to reorganize, improve and promote the cultural and historical value of the area east of Hoan Kiem Lake.
The objective is to create greater harmony between the landscape and the cultural and historical character of the surrounding area.
Following studies and consultations with relevant agencies, organizations, experts and researchers, the Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Hanoi Capital Command and the Hoan Kiem Ward People’s Committee to coordinate the relocation.
The monument will be moved to Regiment 692 of the 301st Infantry Division under the Hanoi Capital Command.
According to the plan, the new location will provide a solemn setting appropriate for the monument while allowing it to serve educational activities highlighting the traditions and history of the capital’s armed forces.
The site is also expected to provide better conditions for the monument’s management, preservation and continued promotion of its historical value.
The relocation and reinstallation are scheduled to be completed before September 30.
The project comes ahead of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Resistance Day, marking the nationwide resistance launched on December 19, 1946. The anniversary falls on December 19, 2026.
