According to the latest report from the General Statistics Office (GSO), the average monthly income in the third quarter of 2022 hit VND7.10 million, up VND146,000 against the second quarter.
Hanoi surpassed HCM City in terms of the highest average income, at VND9.90 million, up 9.70 percent on-month.
HCM City came second at VND9.30 percent, up 0.6 percent on-month.
Most big cities saw higher average incomes compared to the same period last year, including Dong Nai with VND8.70 million (up by VND 155,000); and Thai Nguyen with VND 7.30 million (up by VND979,000), GSO said.
The Red River Delta saw the fastest growth in average income with over six percent during the period. Meanwhile, the Southeastern region reported modest growth of only 2.20 percent. This region also had the highest number of unemployed people of working age, at 3.08 percent.
Despite higher income, lives have not improved much due to the rising costs of essential goods triggered by fuel prices hikes, the GSO commented.
Although the number of workers affected by the financial crisis facing their companies has decreased compared to the second quarter, GSO predicted that export companies will still face lots of challenges in the coming time due to the economic downturn, the war in Ukraine, rising inflation and tight monetary policies. More workers may lose their jobs or face reduced hours.
