In a rare and remarkable occurrence, twin brothers Vu The Hoang Huy and Vu The Hoang Tien, both students of class 9A4 at Hoang Mai Secondary School in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi, achieved identical scores on their 10th grade entrance exams.

After the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced the 10th grade exam scores for 2024, Vu The Hoang Huy discovered his impressive results: 8.75 in Literature, 10 in Foreign Language, and 10 in Math, totaling 47.5 points. Surprisingly, his twin brother, Vu The Hoang Tien, received the exact same scores.

This extraordinary coincidence has amazed many, with people exclaiming, "Even the scores are twins!"

Sharing her reaction with VietNamNet, the twins' mother, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, expressed her surprise at the identical scores.

"When the boys came back from the exam, they had an idea of their potential scores, but the fact that they matched in every subject was astonishing," she said.

Initially, she suspected a technical error when she saw identical scores for both registration numbers. It wasn’t until she checked another registration number that she confirmed the scores were accurate.

Ms. Thao noted that achieving identical scores in Math and Foreign Language was more likely since these subjects had multiple-choice questions. However, the matching Literature scores were unexpected. She attributed this to the twins' logical thinking and presentation style, influenced by their focus on Math.

The only difference in their results was their specialized subject scores, each earning an 8. Huy's specialized subject was Math, while Tien's was Informatics. Despite different specialized exams, both received identical scores in Math-related tests.

Ms. Thao described her sons as well-behaved and helpful at home. Huy, who excels in Math and enjoys reading and playing with Lego, is quieter. Tien, who is more active and has a talent for sports, particularly table tennis, has won several district-level competitions.

Ms. Thao emphasized that she and her husband never pressured their children academically, allowing them to pursue their interests. "We just want our children to be healthy and happy, not overly stressed about studying," she said.

Both brothers have consistently performed well in school, particularly in Math. Huy, often dubbed the "king of second place," has won second place in district-level Math competitions from grades 6 to 9. Tien has also secured third place in the same competitions multiple times. In grade 9, Huy won second place, and Tien won third place in the city-level Math competition.

Their homeroom teacher, Ms. Ngo Thu My, who also teaches Literature, was impressed but not surprised by their scores. "The result reflects their academic abilities and efforts, not just luck," she said.

Both Huy and Tien have chosen Viet Duc High School as their first choice for non-specialized public high school and Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted for their specialized programs.

Huy has already been admitted to the specialized Math block at Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted.

Despite not yet being admitted to a specialized school, Tien remains optimistic about his chances at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Ms. Thao hopes both her sons will achieve their goal of joining the specialized programs at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
