Over 10,000 local people from Hanoi gathered together to participate in a ceremony held in Bat Trang commune of Gia Lam district which sees fish released into a river to mark the beginning of the Lunar New Year on February 12.
![]() The event is held annually on the eighth day of the first month of the Lunar New Year. ![]() Early in the morning, trucks carrying approximately 10 tonnes of fish gather around Bat Trang commune in order to provide the fish for the ceremony. ![]() Monks read aloud at the ceremony, they have been invited by the organisers to host the event. ![]() Local people help to transfer the baskets of fish from the trucks to the riverside before releasing the fish. ![]() The ceremony usually lasts for 2 hours. ![]() During the ceremony, local Hanoians pray for health and good luck in the new year ahead. ![]() |
