Hanoi currently has about 1,579 old apartment buildings built between 1960-1994 and before 1954. From 2005-2014, Hanoi completed renovation and rebuilding of 19 projects, and 14 projects are in progress.

Ten old apartment buildings in Hanoi - Kim Lien, Trung Tu, Khuong Thuong, Thanh Xuan Bac, Thanh Xuan Nam, Nghia Tan, Giang Vo, Thanh Cong, Ngoc Khanh, and one connected to the Ministry of Justice -  will be demolished for reconstruction in the third quarter under the Hanoi’s Housing Development Program in 2021-2030.

G6A Thanh Cong is rated at the highest level of danger, which could collapse at any time. However, many families still live there.
The structure of apartments there changed over the years, causing problems for fire-fighting activities.
The danger warning was issued for this apartment but many households have not yet relocated to the temporary residence areas.
At Giang Vo apartments, most families have moved to temporary houses.
The People's Committee of Giang Vo ward has strictly prohibited all activities at the C8 apartment complex.
Also in Giang Vo ward, Ngoc Khanh apartments located on "golden land" have seriously degraded.
However, many families still live there.
Built in 1990, the Ministry of Justice's apartment building in Ba Dinh district has degraded. Local people have been told to relocate to other places. However, some families are still there.
Le Hoang Trung said that his family's apartment was originally only 33m2, but was expanded by more than 30m2 to have enough living area for seven people. "The apartment is in disrepair, but because our family members' work and study places are nearby we choose to stay here because the streets are congested," Trung explained.
Having lived in the Ministry of Justice apartments for decades, Tran Huy Lieu, 75, said that he wants to stay until his family is compensated for a new apartment.
On February 17, Ba Dinh District People's Committee held a dialogue with 23 households who have not moved from deteriorating apartments.
