Located at 47 Ly Thuong Kiet Street (Carreau Street in the French colonial period), Viet Duc High School was initially named after Bishop Puginier.

After the liberation of the capital on October 10th 1954, the Puginier seminary became a general school for both junior and senior secondary schools. In 1960 it became a high school.

In the period 1970-1997, the school was split into two separate schools, including the Viet Duc High School (morning classes) and the Ly Thuong Kiet High School (afternoon classes). In July 1997 the two schools were merged into the Viet Duc High Schools.

European-style rooms

The combination of buildings and trees in the schoolyard creates an overall harmonious architecture. Many famous people studied there, such as former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, former Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Professor Ton That Bach, composers Tran Tien and Phu Quang, and poet Luu Quang Vu.
