Over 140 households in Hanoi's Chuong My District have had their houses disinfected after 10 days submerged under flood water.
As soon as the water receded from Nam Phuong Tien Commune, the staff at the local Preventive Medicine Centre quickly arrived to disinfect the area.
Tran Van Ky from Chuong My Preventive Medicine Centre said they had cleaned up three villages in Nam Phuong Tien Commune on the morning of August 7.
Nam Phuong Tien Vice Chairman Do Dinh Trung said, "We reported to district authorities right after we saw the water receding in some communes so that a plan to prevent flooding diseases could be rapidly implemented. Everything is going according to plan."
More than 100 houses in Chuong My are still under water. Trung said their plan was to disinfect areas where the water receded.
The residents of Nam Phuong Tien were also been given health check-ups and medicines free of charge on the same day.
Most of them have itching and diarrhoea caused by exposure to the contaminated water. According to the medical staff, over 800 people have itching feet, four to five have conjunctivitis and some have diarrhoea.
