Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai recently led a Vietnamese delegation attending the 2024 VELP (Vietnam Executive Leadership Program) at Harvard University in Boston in the US.

The 2024 VELP discussed the prospects of the global and Asian economy and predicted transition trends that may impact Vietnam’s economy, as well as new driving forces for growth in Vietnam, especially innovation, digital transformation, AI, and emerging technologies.

Khai said after eight successful organizations, VELP has become a prestigious dialogue and policy consultancy programs which, through exchanges and dialogues, enhances understanding, confidence and cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and the US.

Vietnam hopes to closely cooperate with the US to deploy the comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development in all fields, especially education and training.

He believes that 2024 VELP will suggest strategic issues and make concrete recommendations for Vietnam.

At the discussion sessions about global economic prospects, AI and microchip semiconductors, professors and experts discussed the development of large economies and new technologies.

Professors said they have a good impression about the success of Vietnam’s economy, believing that it has had the most successful transformation in the world in the last two decades.

Experts made many recommendations for Vietnam in order for it to take full advantage of new investment capital, build an ecosystem for emerging technologies, use its advantages in human resources to develop AI, and pay attention to digital infrastructure and renewable energy.

On April 1, Khai received Prof Douglas Elmendorf from the Harvard Kennedy School, David Golan from Harvard Medical School and professors of the Vietnam Program at Harvard University.

Khai exchanged views with leading experts of the US’s oldest university which has produced many experts and famous scientists. It is one of the universities that most actively promotes education cooperation with Vietnam.

Cooperation in education and training is one of the important parts of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Elmendorf affirmed that his school will continue to promote cooperation with Vietnam, with focus on sharing research and assessments about regional and international, and Vietnam’s, situation. Fulbright University is expected to help provide a highly qualified labor force to Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Golan praised the cooperation program with 10 medical schools in Vietnam, adding that more resources will be reserved to promote cooperation between Harvard Medical School and Vietnam’s Ministry of Health.
