VietNamNet Bridge - Mercer, a consulting and market research firm in the UK, has announced the rankings of quality of life of 230 cities around the world. Hanoi and HCM City are ranked 152nd and 155th respectively.

Facing security risks, social unrest and dim economic prospects, Europe still has a few cities in the group with the best quality of life in the world, according to the 18th surveys of Mercer.

Vienna , Austria continues to lead the world in quality of life, followed by Zurich (Switzerland), Auckland (New Zealand), and Munich (Germany).

Vancouver (Canada), ranked 5th, is the city with the highest ranking in North America, while the leading representative of Asia was Singapore (26th).

The major cities such as London, Paris and New York are not in the top 35.

Paris dropped by 10 places to 37th due to the vulnerable factor to terrorism. London was similar, ranked 39th.

In Asia - Pacific, apart from Singapore from the top group, Bangladesh's capital Dhaka ranked last, at the 214th position.

Tokyo has the highest ranking in East Asia (44th), followed by a number of other major cities such as Hong Kong (70th), Taipei (84th), Shanghai (101st), Seoul (115th), and Beijing ( 118th).

In Southeast Asia, behind Singapore is Kuala Lumpur (86th), Bangkok (129th), Manila (136th), and Jakarta (142nd). Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi ranked 152nd and 155th respectively. HCM City was in the same class with Mumbai (India) and Guatemala City.

Considering the level of safety and quality of life, Baghdad is in the last position (230th). It is also the city with the worst safety level in the world besides Damascus (Syria).

The criteria for evaluating a city of Mercer include economic conditions, health care, education, housing and the environment. The data is often interested in by large corporations before making decisions on investment and salaries for employees.
