Nguyen Huu Hiep, deputy head of the department, said the system would help import and export companies simplify paper procedures with transport firms and customs agencies, and reduce costs and customs clearance time.

The system will also help customs agencies closely monitor imports and exports, and prevent fraud and smuggling, he said.

By the end of the first quarter of the year, the department will also begin using the system at Phuoc Long ICD Port and the Saigon Cargo Service Corporation warehouse in Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The system will be used at all customs agencies beginning in the second quarter of the year. The city is the first locality in southern Viet Nam to implement the system.

In December, the northern city of Hai Phong began using the system. – VNS
