The large water pump is installed on the flood-prone Nguyen Huu Canh Street in HCMC’s Binh Thanh District. The street will be repaired in June.

The project is aimed at resurfacing the 3.2-kilometer-long street, and renovating the drainage system, lighting, trees, lawns and infrastructure along the street.

The project will take 14 months to complete, running from June 2019 to September 2020.

The Urban Traffic Management Unit No. 3 at the department was proposed as the project’s main investor. The Transport and Construction departments and relevant units were asked to put the project out to tender and ensure it is executed on schedule and falls in line with prevailing regulations.

The municipal government also asked the departments to arrange for alternative routes for vehicles when the street is being repaired.

The street has encountered heavy flooding for years. In addition, the ongoing execution of property projects and construction of residential buildings along the street have triggered subsidence and traffic congestion there.

The city government had decided to temporarily rent a large water pump from Quang Trung Industry JSC, with an annual fee reaching nearly VND10 billion, to control floods on the street.
