Since early this month, it has been easy to see adverts for car rentals in HCM City on social networks. The service is not only offered by transportation firms but also residents.

According to a company offering car rental services, HCM City to Hanoi return flights during the coming Tet holiday would cost between VND7-10 million, and VND5-10 million for flights from HCM City to other localities.

Return train tickets from HCM City to Hanoi are also at VND5 million each. So, hiring a car is cheaper.

A range of key transport works connecting HCM City and neighbouring localities such as Giau Giay-Phan Thiet, Nha Trang-Cam Lam and Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet have been put into operation, helping to save travel time.

Thanh Tung, 34, from Thu Duc City said that his family would hire a car to drive to Nha Trang City during the coming Tet holiday. It would take them around 15 hours to arrive in Nha Trang. The family would spend around VND5 million on car rental and VND2 million on petrol, making it much cheaper than going by air.

According to Vu Thi Nhu, 40, her family often hires a car to visit their home in Ha Tinh during Tet. This year, she booked the service earlier to have a better car at a cheaper price.

Car rental prices range between VND600,000-8 million per day, depending on the vehicle and time. The more Tet nears, the higher the prices are. For instance, Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Xpander, Suzuki Etiga, Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner, Kia Sedona and Ford Tourneo are leased at VND900,000-1.5 million per day.

Nguyen Thanh, an owner of a car rental service, said that roughly 60 percent of his cars have been booked for Tet.

People are advised to check the car's interior features carefully and report any visible damage or scratches to the rental agency to avoid potential compensation issues later.
