The ministry said it preferred the first option, in which State employees would have a seven-day Lunar New Year holiday from February 8, 2024 (Thursday) to February 14, 2024 (Wednesday).

This option would allow employees to have two days off before New Year's Eve and five days during the Lunar New Year holiday. It would include two additional days off on February 13 and 14 according to the Labour Code.

Previously, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs presented two options for the 2024 Lunar New Year break, both lasting for seven days.

In the second option, the holiday would also span seven days, but from February 9, 2024 (Friday) to February 15, 2024 (Thursday). It would give employees one day off before New Year’s Eve and six days during the Lunar New Year holiday.

This option would also result in two additional days off, as the break included the two usual days off during the weekend.

For employees in private enterprises, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs stated that the holiday schedule should be determined based on practical conditions and the holiday schedule applied to State employees, but should inform employees the holiday plan at least 30 days in advance.

The ministry encouraged enterprises to apply the same holiday schedule for their employees.

The ministry would continue collecting feedback from ministries and departments, before being submitted to the Prime Minister for approval, it said. — VNS
