Babysitter hits a child while feeding

On March 16, Huynh Thanh Nhan, chairman of Ward 17, Go Vap District, said they were working with the police to investigate the case.

"The local authorities and police quickly arrived and suspended the operation of a private nursery on Nguyen Oanh Street after detecting signs of abuse," Nhan said.

The nursery is taking care of nine children whose parents are poor workers.

The police are taking over the case and taking statements from the nursery's owner, Pham Thi Mong T, and her sister.

Meanwhile, the ward authorities will decide whether or not to apply administrative fines for the women, based on the results of the investigation.

According to Nhan, they often collaborate with relevant agencies to inspect nursery groups and schools in the area.

Nguyen Thanh Thuy, head of Go Vap District Department of Education and Training, said in the coming time, they would direct ward localities to carry out inspections on all nurseries and shut down illegal ones.

Seven children have been transferred to Anh Dao Nursery School, Anh Dao.

Two children who were abused in the clip have been returned to their families.

A video clip was previously posted on the internet and stirred up the public anger. In the clip, two teachers hit and threw the children on the ground while feeding and bathing them.

Le Thi Diem Chau, the parent of a 16-month-old child at the nursery, said the monthly tuition is only VND1.5m (USD65).

"I'm worried when seeing the clip. My child didn't appear in the clip but I recognised my neighbour's child. He's only two years old. The teacher pushed his head down while trying to feed him," she said.
