VietNamNet Bridge – Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee asked the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Culture and Sports to end extra classes outside the schools except for foreign training centers and studying centers.

To address teaching and learning activities in extra classes, the committee asked the education department not to allow teaching and learning in extra classes in teachers’ houses from the new school year.

Organizing remedial course for backward students or fresher courses for gifted students is schools’ responsibility. Issuance of certificate and management on centers must be in accordance with law.

In addition, the Department of Education and Training should propose some amendments to adjust the People’s Committee’s decision 2014 on organizing extra classes so that it can meet guidelines be the city’s Party Committee.

 Director of the Department of Education and Training and chairpersons of people’s committees in districts must liaise with school to admit all students in the districts as scheduled to curb parents to apply for schools of their choice. Leaders of district authority and director will be held accountable if the transferring still takes place and public concern is raised.

At the same time, the city People Committee also asked the Department of Education and Training to work with the Department of Culture and Sports to promote teaching swimming for students. Additionally, the education sector should invite private investment to build more swimming pools.
