According to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City's Power System Centre, the city consumed 2.38 billion kWh electricity in March compared to just 1.65 billion kWh of February.

It is expected that the power consumption will peak in April as 2.05 billion kWh has been consumed by April 25, the centre's report said.

On April 24, the city saw the highest number of electricity used in 10 years, over 90 million kWh.

While the power demand rose since March due to the hot weather, an electricity price hike has resulted in electricity bills doubling for many families.

General Director of the Electricity of Vietnam Group Ho Chi Minh City, Pham Quoc Bao said that power consumption in the city is mainly in households (41%) and services.

"We are carrying out some energy saving communication campaigns," Bao said. Dtinews
