On August 30, Ho Chi Minh City Police said its Investigation Police Office (PC01) had coordinated with the Investigation Police Office under the Ministry of Public Security (C01) and other relevant agencies to arrest and hand over three internationally wanted suspects to South Korean authorities.

The handover took place at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport border checkpoint.

Ho Chi Minh City police arrested and handed over Wang Teasan, born in 1990 and a South Korean national, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice over alleged telecommunications fraud.

Wang is accused of calling numerous people and claiming to possess sexually explicit videos of them. He allegedly threatened to post the videos on social media and send them to the victims’ relatives and friends unless they transferred money to him.

In reality, police said, it was a scam and Wang did not possess any such videos.

Ho Chi Minh City police also handed over two other suspects wanted under Interpol Red Notices: Han Joohee, born in 1992, and Bang Giseong, born in 1997.

Han is accused of setting up and operating an online escort website. Rather than actually arranging women for clients, however, Han allegedly used the platform to deceive men into transferring money to meet women who existed only online.

Bang, meanwhile, is accused of taking part in a transnational fraud operation in which callers impersonated officials from South Korean judicial authorities.

The group allegedly manipulated victims and pressured them into transferring money by claiming they were under criminal investigation. Victims were also instructed and pressured to buy cryptocurrency and transfer it to digital wallets designated by the suspects.
