An expert speaks at the 2018 Viet Nam Cyber Security in HCM City on Wednesday.
At the 2018 Viet Nam Cyber Security, hundreds of Vietnamese and foreign cyber security experts and academics and representatives of companies discussed challenges to information safety and ensuring security in the finance-banking sector.
They simulated targeted attacks on businesses’ and Government organisations’ IT systems.
Experts from other countries and foreign companies shared their experience in cyber security.
John Yong, former director of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, highlighted his country’s experience in implementing its cyber security strategy to strengthen the resilience of its national critical information infrastructure, including the banking sector.
He also spoke about the legal framework, research and development, manpower development, eco-systems and international partnerships.
Singapore established a professional cyber-security workforce by encouraging professionals to remain as well as attracting new graduates and converting other professionals, he said.
To strengthen cyber security, he suggested forging global and regional co-operation to counter cyber threats and crime and called for international and ASEAN cyber capacity-building initiatives.
Do Sinh Truong, technical expert for enterprise customers at HP Vietnam, said many businesses invest large amounts of money to secure their system but leave their printers vulnerable, making it a “gateway” for hackers.
Failure to properly evaluate the importance of print security undermines the ability to detect and respond promptly to attacks on an organisation’s information systems, he said.
Other experts spoke about solutions for meeting the security requirements when promoting financial and banking activities on digital technology platforms and launching ATM systems.
The annual conference was held at a time when cyber attacks are increasing in the country.
It was organised by the Cyber Security and Counter High-tech Crime Department, Viet Nam Computer Emergency Response Team, Civil Cryptography Management and Cryptography Product and IDG Vietnam.— VNS
