At a conference on goods supply for the 2016 Lunar New Year (Tet) and food safety chain models on December 7, the trade department’s deputy director Nguyen Ngoc Hoa said three suppliers and two retail chains have met Vietnamese Good Agriculture Practice (VietGAP) standards and got certificates for food safety.

Safe products will be supplied by Vietnam Meat Industries Co. Ltd. (Vissan), Saigon Food Processing and Animal Breeding Co. (Sagrifood) and Dalat-based Anh Dao General Agricultural Service Cooperative.

Vissan sells VietGAP pork at 221 points, including 28 under Co.opmart supermarkets, 87 under Co.op Food, 75 under Satrafoods and 31 Vissan shops. Vissan also supplies beef imported from Australia and slaughtered under ESCAS standards.

Sagrifood, a subsidiary of the Saigon Agriculture Corporation, also provides VietGAP pork, chicken and processed food items at supermarkets and convenience stores of Saigon Co.op’s Co.opmart and Co.op Food facilities, and five Sagrifood stores.

Anh Dao Cooperative distributes vegetables and fruits meeting VietGAP and Good Agricultural Practice (GlobalGAP) standards and products recognized for food safety at its own 20 convenience stores in HCMC’s districts 1 and Phu Nhuan. The company is also a supplier for Saigon Co.op outlets and some Satrafoods stores.

In addition, certified products will be sold by Saigon Co.op and Saigon Trading Group (Satra).

Saigon Co.op will supply more than 4,000 necessities and fresh food meeting VietGAP, ISO, HACCP, and GMP standards at 176 points of sale, including 78 Co.opmart supermarkets, two Co.opXtra supermarkets, and 96 Co.op Food stores. During the forthcoming Lunar New Year holiday, Saigon Co.op will sell 95,000 tons of fresh food including 16,000 tons of vegetables, fruits, chicken, pork and more than 12 million eggs.

Satra will supply safe vegetables at two facilities and 68 Satrafoods food stores and VietGAP pork in the Satrafood system.

Hoa said the certification and announcement of the selling points are the first stage of reorganizing food sources and processing safe and quality food with clear origins for consumers. The trade department will continue to connect and support producers and distributors to ensure stable supplies of quality products for costumers.
