On November 9, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in the city.
At the meeting, some raised questions about the situation of disclosure of personal information and widespread trade of personal information online and the measures that the Ho Chi Minh City Police Agency took to handle this situation.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Manh Ha, Deputy Head of the HCM City Police Advisory Department, said that in addition to implementing solutions to protect personal information, the agency directed professional units to grasp the situation, fight and handle acts of illegally collecting, buying, selling and exchanging personal data and digital data according to the law.
The local police agency detected 3 cases with 14 subjects related to acts of illegally using personal data. Among them, 3 subjects were involved in buying and selling bank accounts, 1 subject was involved in buying and selling fake documents; 9 subjects had the act of buying and selling personal information.
Regarding the situation of leaking and trading personal information, Ha pointed out 4 main reasons.
First, personal data protection activities of organizations, individuals, and businesses are still very limited. Some organizations have data collection activities that are not yet confidential; use personal data contrary to the purpose of collection; arbitrarily provide it to third parties without the consent of the data subject.
Second, the tricks of criminals collecting personal data are extremely sophisticated and complex. They impersonate reputable brands, agencies, and organizations to create "fake forms" that lure users into providing personal data.
Third, some employees of organizations and businesses intentionally steal and appropriate information to buy, sell, and exchange...
Finally, the awareness of personal data subjects is not high. Many people usually post, provide, and share their personal data in daily life on social networks.
According to Ha, the HCM City Police Agency has advised citizens not to arbitrarily disclose personal information in cyberspace, to avoid being taken advantage of and used by criminals.
For digital accounts, people need to pay attention to account security, absolutely do not provide login names or OTP codes to authenticate accounts;
Lock online payment features, lock credit cards right on the Internet banking application when suspecting that their card information is leaked or when there is no need to use it; Only log in to the e-banking service through the bank's official website.
If people accidentally click on a fraudulent link and disclose information, they should contact the bank's support hotline or compose a message using the previously specified emergency lock syntax for further instructions.
For organizations, they are advised to strengthen the work of ensuring information security and safety for their information systems, strictly implement impact assessment regulations on personal data protection and transfering personal data abroad in accordance with regulations.
