The Drug Crime Investigation Department (PC47) under Ho Chi Minh City Police has busted a major drug trafficking ring, seizing a total of 9.4 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

The ring was led by Le Thi Ngan, 48, from District 8, HCM City.

The city’s police had discovered Ngan as a major drug wholesaler and Thai Vi Dan, 44, from Binh Tan district, as one of her regular buyers since the end of January 2018, they announced on March 19.

They caught Dan red-handed with about 150 grams of methamphetamine in District 6 at 20:00 on March 14, shortly after he purchased the amount from Ngan, ​during an anti-drug operation in collaboration with the Investigation Police Department on Drug-Related Crimes (C47) under the Ministry of Public Security.

In earlier morning the next day, the police raided Ngan’s home in a small lane on Phu Dinh street in Ward 16, District 8, seizing 9.3 kilogrammes of the drug.

She confessed that she bought the drug from Cambodia to distribute in Vietnam. The police are collecting more evidence to take the suspects to court.

HCM City’s police also cracked down on another large drug trafficking ring earlier this year. They arrested eight persons involving in illegal drug trade and stockpile, and seized 26,300 ecstasy pills, nearly 14 kg of crystal meth, and 200 grams of ketamine.

The ring was led by La Van Hai, 46, who went to Cambodia to buy drugs and gave the contrabands to Nguyen Thanh Lam, 40, to sell in Vietnam. Both reside in Ho Chi Minh City.

Drug smuggler caught in Hoa Binh province

Nguyen Nam Duc was arrested for transporting drugs from Laos to Vietnam on March 19 



Police in Cao Phong district in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh on March 19 arrested a man transporting drugs from Laos to Vietnam.

The arrested man was Nguyen Nam Duc, born in 1980, who is residing in the province’s Mai Chau district. He was caught red-handed smuggling 1kg of crystal methamphetamine and seven bags containing about 1,400 meth pills.

Duc admitted that he and another man, named Tuan, had bought the drugs from Laos. Tuan then hired Duc to transport the drugs into Vietnam.

The case is being further investigated by Hoa Binh province’s police.

A day earlier, the border guard force in the central province of Ha Tinh also arrested a man carrying 15kg of methamphetamine from Laos to Vietnam.

Thao Cu Mua, 31, from the Mong ethnic minority group in Laos’ Bolikhamsai province was caught allegedly smuggling 15kg of methamphetamine contained in 15 yellow plastic bags.

Mua admitted that he transported the drug into Vietnam for a Vietnamese person for 120,000 USD.

Illegal methamphetamine trafficking prevented

Hà Tĩnh Province Border Guard, in collaboration with other law enforcement forces, prevented 15kg of methamphetamines from being illegally trafficked to Việt Nam on Sunday.

At 4.30am, on the National Highway No.8A across Hà Trai Village, Sơn Kim 1 Commune, Hương Sơn District, the drug and crime prevention force under the provincial border guard searched and arrested Thao Cu Mua, 31, from Noong Poong Commune, Khamkeut District, Borikhamxay Province, in Laos. According to Thanh Niên (Young people) Newspaper, the force seized 15kg of methamphetamines divided into 15 bags, which were to be shipped to a Vietnamese man for US$120,000, according to the trafficker.

Police are conducting an extensive investigation of the case.
