The three construction packages of the An Phu interchange project, including the Ba Dat Bridge, Giong Ong To 2 Bridge, and HC1-1 Tunnel, are on track to be completed this year. After 20 months of construction, the An Phu interchange project in Thu Duc City is steadily taking shape, with some components nearing completion. This interchange, which began construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of over 3,400 billion VND, is the largest and most crucial traffic node designed to reduce congestion at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.
The construction features three levels, including an underpass linking the Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Avenue (across the Saigon River), two overpasses for directional traffic, and connecting roads to key routes.
Workers are currently busy constructing the underpass section that intersects with the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and Dong Van Cong Street.
The HC1-1 tunnel section on Mai Chi Tho Avenue near Dong Van Cong is expected to be completed in December this year, while the HC1-2 tunnel on the Mai Chi Tho Avenue side connecting to the expressway is set for completion in July 2025.
Six dry bridge pillars have been erected in the area of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, extending from Do Xuan Hop Street to the An Phu interchange.
By May 2025, the project is expected to complete the bored piles, bridge pillars, load reduction slabs, and span structures.
Construction materials and equipment are neatly stored within the barricaded construction area at the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection to ensure safety and minimize the impact on traffic flow.
This year, the three packages of the An Phu interchange project will be completed, including Ba Dat Bridge (expected to be finished tomorrow), Giong Ong To 2 Bridge (by September 30), and the HC1-1 Tunnel (in December). These completions will significantly alleviate traffic pressure in the area.
Every day, about 22,000 vehicles, including many container trucks, tankers, and dump trucks, pass through this area en route to Cat Lai Port and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway. The area frequently experiences heavy traffic during peak hours. Ho Chi Minh City leaders have called for an accelerated completion of what is currently the city’s most complex interchange construction project.
