Road users are stuck in a heavy traffic jam in HCMC. The HCMC government has plans to re-designate a lot of two-way downtown streets as one-way roads

Traffic could be compelled to move in a single direction on the current two-way streets of Cong Hoa, Truong Chinh, Hoang Van Thu, Hai Ba Trung, Pham Ngoc Thach, Tran Quoc Thao, Phan Van Tri and Le Quy Don.

Truong Chinh, Hoang Van Thu and Cong Hoa roads would form a huge traffic circle. Meanwhile, road users on Le Quang Dinh Street would be allowed to travel in a single direction from Pham Van Dong to Phan Van Tri. Those on Phan Van Tri Street would have to move from Le Quang Dinh to Pham Van Dong.

Hai Ba Trung Street will be made a one-way road from Me Linh Square adjacent to the Saigon River to Vo Thi Sau Street, and one-way traffic would be enforced on Pham Ngoc Thach Street from Vo Thi Sau to Le Duan streets.

The city’s traffic authority has designed some bus-only lanes on a Dien Bien Phu Street section from Ly Thai To Roundabout to the Saigon Bridge, and another section of Vo Thi Sau Street from Dinh Tien Hoang Street to Dan Chu Roundabout on a trial basis.

If these bus lanes are successful, the city government would design more lanes for buses on Truong Chinh, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Nguyen Van Troi and Pham Van Dong streets, and a section of Hanoi Highway from the Saigon Bridge to Suoi Tien  Park.

Statistics of the city’s police department show there were no traffic jams lasting more than 30 minutes in quarter one.
