People in HCM City struggled to commute on the flooded streets as the city witnessed heavy rainfall and high tides late yesterday afternoon.

The rainfall started at around 4pm yesterday and lasted for a few hours. The rain plus the high tides reportedly led to heavy flooding on the streets, including D1, Nguyen Huu Canh Street in Binh Thanh District, Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7 and Luong Dinh Của Street, as well as Tran Nao Street in District 2 and An Duong Vuong Street in District 8.

Hundreds of drivers had to tow their motorbikes, unable to ride them on Nguyen Huu Canh Street since half the wheel was submerged in the water.

According to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecast Centre, high tides will reappear in HCM City today and tomorrow. The high tides could reach as high as 1.43-1.47m, some 7cm higher the Level II flood warning, which could lead to floods in the lower parts of the city close to the river, such as District 12, Bình Tân District and Nha Be District.

Meanwhile, the northern provinces will see a slight drop in temperature from today.

Last week, the northern provinces, particularly Hanoi, experienced dry hot weather with the temperature at some 35 degree Celsius.

This week, the temperature in the north is expected to drop 1-2 degree Celsius and some areas are forecast to get rain. However, it remains quite dry with humidity of some 55 per cent.

By the weekend, provinces in the Red River Delta and the coastal areas may get rainfall that will last two or three days.
