The city’s Urban Traffic Management Board No 1 is testing one-way traffic on the flyover at Cong Hoa-Hoang Hoa Tham intersection.

The pilot programme will last one month.

During the trial run, vehicles using the flyover from 6:30am to 8am are allowed to move from Truong Chinh Street to Lang Cha Ca roundabout and in the opposite direction from 4-7 pm.

During the remaining time of the day, vehicles can travel in both directions on the flyover.

According to the department, traffic jams often occur during these rush-hour times and the one-way flow is expected to ease congestion.

The flyover was opened to traffic in August in 2013 to help reduce traffic jams on Cong Hoa Street, but congestion has occurred during peak hours.

The department will also expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street from the military quarters to Cong Hoa Street by 22 metres at the end of next month. The total capital for the expansion and ground clearance is VNĐ254 billion (US$11.2 million).

A section of Hoang Minh Giam Street from Gia Dinh Park to Dao Duy Anh Street in Phu Nhuan District will also be expanded at the beginnng of next month.

The street will have six lanes. The total capital for the expansion and ground clearance is VND166 billion.

The expansion plans are designed to improve traffic flow around Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
