The HCM City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs has organised the second get-together ‘Overseas Vietnamese Meeting Point of 2024’ with the theme of effective solutions for building a database of overseas Vietnamese in the digital age and current international integration.

The event aims to spread and promote the values of the “HCM City Cultural Space - Overseas Vietnamese Meeting Point.”

It also provides an opportunity for the OVs community and their relatives in the city to connect, share information, and collaborate in various fields.

This is an opportunity for the OVs community to participate in research and contribute constructive opinions to the plan for building a database of OV.

The get-together's participants proposed prioritising the focus on OV intellectuals and entrepreneurs to establish appropriate access mechanisms to connect and attract resources and ‘soft’ power for the city.

Vũ Thị Huỳnh Mai, Chairwoman of HCM City’s Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, highly appreciated the opinions and proposals of the participating delegates.

“Building a database of OVs is essential in the digital age and aligns with the general trend of developing e-government and digital transformation,” she said.

Through this database, the rights of OVs can be better ensured, such as timely support for immigration procedures, repatriation, confirmation of Vietnamese origin, and regular administrative procedures related to residency.

The city has about 2.8 million overseas Vietnamese in 130 countries and territories. However, regarding the fields in which OVs operate and their occupations, the city does not have data.

Building an overseas Vietnamese database is expected to be a driving force to gather OVs in all countries and territories so that each group can promote their role to support the city when needed. — VNS
